Past Board Chair Leonard Schein Recognized

On April 26, 2012 BCY Board Member and Past Board Chair Leonard Schein was honoured as a BC Community Achiever during a ceremony at Government House in Victoria. Lieutenant Governor Steven Point and Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Ida Chong presented Leonard with a BC Achievement Award Medallion and certificate to recognize and celebrate the spirit, imagination, dedication and contribution to his community.

Leonard received this honour due to his outstanding support of the Canadian Cancer Society, both within the BC & Yukon Division and nationally. As a long-term board member he has played a pivotal role in securing significant endowments and donations, while strengthening the Society's partnerships with other cancer organizations. Leonard was also recognized for his contributions to the field of art and culture. He opened his first neighbourhood cinema, The Ridge, in Vancouver in 1977, and launched the Vancouver International Film Festival in 1982. This award is in recognition for Leonard's contributions to the cultural fabric and quality of life in Vancouver (and beyond) for over thirty years.
