Meet Garth Pinton - Volunteer Driver

Garth Pinton is a dedicated and valued member of the Canadian Cancer Society's Workforce Team. He has been a volunteer with the Society's Volunteer Driver Program since August 2010, providing safe and efficient rides for people with no other means of transportation, to and from their primary cancer treatment.

Garth was drawn to this program after having supported his mother through her cancer treatments. After she passed away, he saw an article about the Canadian Cancer Society's Volunteer Driver Program and knew that it was a volunteer position that would be the best fit for him and would allow him to have the most impact.

"I love driving and love to learn about the patients and their families. Often they are alone and don't have anyone else to talk to so I can fill that void while they are in my car. I have never met a group of individuals more positive and upbeat as those I drive. I've said to many people that if you think you are having a tough day, take a drive with me on Thursdays and you'll see how insignificant your issues are."
